About Us
NIRMAL CHAYA SELF HELP GROUP
We empower women by offering livelihood opportunities through upcycling waste materials into eco-friendly products using skills such as sewing, knitting, and more.
Nirmal Chaya is a women’s collective started in 2019 in Kangra, Himachal Pradesh, under the social initiative of Green India Company. Our mission is to empower women by providing sustainable livelihood opportunities and promoting eco-friendly practices. Based in Gamru Village, Dharamshala (Himachal Pradesh), we specialize in knitting and sewing using upcycled clothes to create a wide range of products that turn waste into valuable resources. In the first chapter, "Gamru 2023," our primary focus is to produce cloth bags made from recycled clothes at a cost that is comparable to single use plastic bags commonly found in the market. Our other products include masks, cloth toys, baby sweaters, dog sweaters, and beds. As a part of our system, we strive to collect as many clothes as possible from households, institutes, and landfills. After a thorough cleaning and processing process, we convert these materials into high quality, eco friendly products that are available at an affordable price. Our goal is to create a sustainable, low cost, and easily replicable system that not only helps in generating livelihoods for women but also contributes to the conservation of the environment.
